The Central Pennsylvania Chapter of the Women’s Transportation Seminar (WTS) 

is announcing the continuation of its local and national scholarship program for the 2024-2025 school year. The application period is NOW OPEN through December 6, 2024.

There are three qualification requirements to be considered for the annual scholarships:
*Applicant must be a female student and US citizen
*Applicant must be a student currently residing in PA or attending high school, trade school, junior college, undergraduate school, or graduate school in the Commonwealth.
*Applicant should be considering a career related to transportation may apply. The Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University

is now accepting applications from talented high school juniors for the summer 2025 program.

What is it?
PGSS is an intensive, five-week summer residential program for high school juniors interested in pursuing careers in science and mathematics. This summer program offers students hands-on experience with laboratory research and emphasizes cooperative learning.

Accepted applicants will receive a full scholarship to the program which covers the costs of housing, meals, and all instructional materials. Families are responsible for transportation to and from the university, personal items, and spending money. Students must commit to living on campus at Carnegie Mellon University throughout the duration of the five-week summer program.

The Details

June 22, 2025 – July 26, 2025

The program is open to high school juniors at time of application who attend a public, nonpublic, or private school or are homeschooled.

Completed applications must be emailed per instructions on the Carnegie Mellon University – Pennsylvania Governor’s School for the Sciences webpage no later than January 31, 2025.  Applications emailed after this date and time will be disqualified.

Valley Rural Electric Brighter Future Scholarship

Valley Rural Electric Cooperative will award up to 35 $1,000 Brighter Future scholarships this year to eligible students who qualify. The money to fund this scholarship program comes from unclaimed capital credits refunds that previously had to be turned over to the state government. Thanks to the efforts of our political advocates, we can now keep those funds in our local communities.

Eligibility Requirements
The applicant must be:
• a dependent of an active Valley REC member who is the parent or guardian of the applicant,
• a high school senior (public, private, charter, cyber, or home-school) planning to enroll full-time
at an accredited post-secondary institution or trade/technical school for the 2025-2026 academic
year.
Previous Brighter Future scholarship recipients are not eligible.
Application Deadline – March 31, 2025
Applications and all required information must be returned by the deadline via one of the following
methods.
• Mailed to Valley Rural Electric Cooperative at the address below with a postmark no later than
the deadline date.

Community State Bank’s 2025 Continuing Education Scholarship

Community State Bank’s 2025 Continuing Education Scholarship application period is now open! We will be accepting applications until April 18th. This year we are only accepting applications submitted through our website here: https://communitystate.bank/csb-continuing-education-scholarship/

To apply for this scholarship:

  1. Complete the Community State Bank Scholarship Application by typing your response directly on the form and attaching the required application materials.
  2. Write an essay within the application stating why the applicant feels they are deserving of the scholarship.  The essay must be a minimum of 250 words.
  3. The applicant must have one letter of recommendation – either from a teacher or from another mentor. The letter should address the student and these topics as it pertains to them: Initiative, Cooperation, Leadership, Dependability, & Character.
  4. The applicant must present a letter of acceptance from a post-secondary school.

All application materials must be turned in to Community State Bank by April 18, 2025. Only electronic submissions will be accepted.

The Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation is proud to facilitate nearly 200 scholarships for the benefit of students in and around the Central PA area. For a complete list of scholarships offered see the website below. 

Students will have until Friday, March 14th to submit their applications. Everything application related will be completed within the online portal. This would include requesting letter(s) of recommendation, uploading transcripts, etc.

 Students should visit centralpagives.org. When they visit this page, they can then select the “Ways to Receive” section in the menu. They should then select “Scholarship.” Once on the “Scholarships” page, they should click the “Apply” button that will take them directly to our scholarship portal.

 For reference, the universal application should take students approximately 15 to 20 minutes to complete. They will be required to upload a copy of their unofficial transcript within the application. Some scholarships ask for additional information that may require additional time. Huntingdon Moose Lodge 223

The Huntingdon Moose Lodge 223 is seeking applicants for our annual scholarship program.  We will be awarding 2 scholarships in the amount of $1,500.00 each for 2 graduating High School Seniors in their pursuit of a Post-Secondary Degree.   Attached to this email is a copy of the 2025 Huntingdon Moose Family Center 233 Scholarship application.
 
Our first priority will be High School Seniors who have a father, mother, stepparent, grandparent or legal guardian who is a member of the Moose in good standing.  If we do not receive enough applicants for this priority, we will then consider other High School Seniors.
 
The student will need to complete the application and return to the High School Guidance Counselor so that the lower portion of the application can be completed.  The student will also need to supply a letter of introduction of who you are, what activities you have been involved in and what are your future plans regarding school and a vocation.  The application must be postmarked on or before April 26, 2025.

 

Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation Scholarships

The Pennsylvania Heritage Foundation is offering 5 scholarship opportunities. They are asking applicants to prepare an essay of up to 1,500 words about a person, location, or event that has been underrecognized in Pennsylvania History. 

Two cash awards of $1,000 and three cash awards of $500 will be presented for the best essays received. 

Eligible applicants should be current Pennsylvania residents attending a two or four-year Pennsylvania college or university in the Fall of 2025 and pursuing a course of study in History or an allied field. We will be looking for well-written and thoughtfully articulated essays that elevate the topic with originality and understanding.

PHN Charitable Foundation

The PHN Charitable Foundation will support the efforts of the Primary Health Network, build and sustain programs in the PHN service area that increase access to healthcare services and assist, through scholarships, the pursuit of medical and allied health careers.

  • After reviewing the mission, values, and programs of PHN and PHNCF, please submit an essay containing a minimum of 550-600 words that explains how you could apply your education, goals and ideals at or with PHN and PHNCF to advance community health and wellness in the PHN/PHNCF footprint.

  • Applicants will be disqualified if any personal details (name, address, phone number, etc.) are listed within the essay. This includes the names of siblings, teachers, coworkers, etc. Please use other identifiers such as “my sister” or “my teacher” instead.

  • G.P.A. of 3.0 or Higher (must provide transcripts)- Unofficial transcripts are sufficient, however, the transcripts you submit must have your name, your school’s name and/or logo, and your GPA clearly visible. PDF uploads are the preferred method of submission. Photos are not acceptable.

  • Must be enrolled in a qualifying course of study for the 2025/2026 academic year. “Undecided” is not eligible.

M. H. DEFORREST MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP 

The Huntingdon Borough Police Department awards a senior HAHS student with the M. H. Deforrest Memorial Scholarship each school year. An applicant must be pursuing a degree

 in Criminal Justice, Sociology, or other related field of study. 

This scholarship is given by members of the Huntingdon Borough Police Department in memory of Marshall H. Deforrest, who served for over 25 years in various capacities in the 

Borough of Huntingdon. M. H. Deforrest served 12 years as the Mayor of Huntingdon Borough. Mayor Deforrest was a dedicated public servant and a friend to all law enforcement

officers. 

This scholarship was first awarded in 1979. 

Each recipient will receive a $500.00 scholarship, which will be forwarded to the financial aid director at a College or University with instructions to credit the recipient’s account. The funds can be used for tuition and/or books.  Please include a cover letter with your application

ELKS LODGE SCHOLARSIP

The Huntingdon Lodge #976 of the Benevolent and Protective Order of ELKS will be awarding 6-Five Hundred Dollar
Scholarships to students graduating in the class of 2025 who demonstrates excellent academic performance, have volunteered
for community service projects, have held a job and/or are active in school extracurricular activities. One scholarship will be
awarded to a student who attends each of the 6 high schools attended by Huntingdon County Students (Huntingdon, Mount
Union, Juniata Valley, Southern Huntingdon, Tussey Mountain, and New Day Charter School). One additional scholarship
will be awarded to a student whose parent or grandparent is a member of the Huntingdon Elks Lodge.
Enclosed you will find an application for the scholarship. The students do NOT need to be related to an ELKS member to be
eligible for one of the 6 scholarships being awarded to local high school seniors.
However, one scholarship has been earmarked for the child or grandchild of a member of the Huntingdon Elks Lodge. Extra
consideration will be given to students that have volunteered at the Huntingdon Elks Lodge.

First preference should be given to high school students from Huntingdon County who desire to enroll in a pre- medical course of study at any accredited college or university.

Second preference should be given to high school students pursuing any other college or university. course of study at any accredited

Third preference shall student who graduated from a Huntingdon County High School and be given to any college who desires to pursue recognized and accredited graduate study at any accredited college or university.

BETTE JANE HEINE SCHOLARSHIP

The Bette Jane Heine Scholarship will be awarded to a Huntingdon County high school senior student who is
entering a Registered Nursing (R.N.) program. The $1,000 scholarship will be awarded and the winner
announced by May 5, 2025.

REQUIREMENTS:
1. Available to any graduating senior currently enrolled in a Huntingdon County high school, home school
or Christian academy program. The student must be a Huntingdon County resident. 
2. The student must be accepted into a Registered Nursing (R.N.) program. 
3. The student must submit the attached application and be personally interviewed by the scholarship
committee. * 
4. A copy of the student’s school transcript must accompany the application. 
*All interviews will take place on a date to be determined, between April 28-30, via Zoom. Applicants
must be available for the interview in order to be considered. Interviews are approximately 15 minutes in
duration.

CONSIDERATIONS:
1. Payment of scholarship money is made directly to the school. 
2. In case of expulsion or withdrawal of the student/recipient during the award year, the Scholarship
Committee will ask that the scholarship be refunded to the Auxiliary.
3. The student must maintain a passing grade average.
4. The decision of the Scholarship Committee is final.
5. All completed applications must be received no later than April 11, 2025.
