So Why Choose BILD?
BILD is a free K–12 online and hybrid learning program for students in the Huntingdon Area School District. We offer flexible learning options designed to meet students where they are. Our Elementary BILD Program provides 3 learning models: a fully online, hybrid, and a blended model with both at-home learning and on-site, community-focused learning experiences. At the Secondary level, students can choose fully online, hybrid, or part-time scheduling to best fit their needs, interests, and activities. With BILD, students learn their way—supported, connected, and rooted in the Huntingdon community.
Curriculum: BILD’s curriculum aligns with Pennsylvania State Standards and matches the pacing and expectations of HASD in-person courses, making transitions to and from online learning smooth and supportive. Students receive targeted math and ELA interventions to meet them where they are academically and promote steady, consistent growth. At the secondary level, BILD courses include curriculum storyboards that weave learning into meaningful narratives, with culminating assignments that allow students to apply and express what they’ve learned. All BILD-developed courses are created and taught by BILD staff using a 5E inquiry-based model, offering multiple ways to interact with content and instructional videos students can revisit anytime. Secondary students can choose from 30+ electives, including courses taught by HASD teachers and through our partners: the World of Learning Institute, eDynamic Learning, and Accelerate Education—with opportunities in career pathways and over five world languages. In the Elementary BILD Program, students also engage in hands-on, problem-solving STEM experiences that build curiosity, collaboration, and confidence.
Student Services and Supports: BILD and the Huntingdon Area School District are committed to providing comprehensive support services to meet the academic, social, and emotional needs of all students. BILD has two dedicated Special Education teachers—one for K–6 and one for 7–12—who provide individualized and small-group academic support, targeted interventions, executive functioning coaching, social skill instruction, and social-emotional learning. Students also have access to speech therapy, occupational therapy, and physical therapy, and we partner with TIU11 to provide additional therapeutic services as needed. Through BILD, our School Social Worker helps students and families connect with local resources and coordinates communication with school staff. Additionally, HASD offers multiple layers of district-level support, including consultation with school guidance counselors, CSBBH, SAP services, Laurel Life programming, and more to ensure every student receives what they need to learn, grow, and thrive.
Experienced and Certified Staff: Our fully PA state-certified BILD teachers (7 full time teachers) are dedicated to supporting students and building strong learning relationships. BILD staff design and deliver engaging, meaningful lessons using instructional best practices for in person and online learning. They use online learning tools tailored to student needs. Students benefit from scheduled live instruction, small-group support, and 1:1 check-ins, ensuring they receive the guidance and connection needed to thrive in an online and hybrid environment. Our full time student to full time staff ratio is 14:1.
Community Connections: BILD is rooted in community, offering students many opportunities to connect, socialize, and grow together. Elementary students are welcome to enjoy lunch and recess on-site, while all BILD students are welcome to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, band, chorus, and clubs. We also engage in local field trips tied to curriculum, school dances, guest speaker events, and philanthropy activities that teach students the importance of giving back to their local area. Additionally, students explore career interests through community-based learning experiences, and we host fun activities like community scavenger hunts to strengthen friendships and belonging. In BILD, students learn online—but they are never learning alone.
