The Huntingdon Area High School Music Department will be presenting the Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine production of “Into the Woods” on Thursday April 27, 28 and 29th at 7 p.m. at H.A.H.S. “Into the Woods” begins with a montage of familiar fairy tale characters and stories including Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk and Rapunzel. Just as in the familiar stories, Cinderella wishes to attend the Ball and Little Red Riding Hood wishes to visit her grandmother’s house. Additionally, Jack wishes for a better life; but his mother, desperate for money, makes him sell his best friend, a cow named Milky White. We also learn of the relationships between Rapunzel, her mother the Witch and a Baker and his wife who yearn to have a child.
The musical begins with these character introductions and tells us why Cinderella, Little Red, Jack, the Baker and his wife must venture into the woods to grant their wish. Each story is then altered and intertwined from what you already know as their journey begins. All of the characters eventually realize the repercussions of their desired “happily ever afters.”
Tickets are on sale now in the high school office during school hours, as well in the high school auditorium lobby on Monday and Tuesday nights from 6-8 p.m. The cost for all reserved seats is $7. Please note, there will also be a free senior citizen matinee on Wednesday April 26 at 9 a.m.
